This grand house was built to house the Commissioner for Gold. It eventually passed into the hands of the Presentation Sisters here it was used as a convent - and a school, I believe. It became run-down and eventually was bought by an artist who restored it and now it is an art gallery.
Outside view:
Inside - looking down over the now cafe.
The top floor had an infirmary and a belltower. But there was no bell today. Apparently they do not know why or when the bell was removed.
And a food snippet. Last night we went to an "Asian Fusion" restaurant. It was very good. The chef was from China, but had been trained at the Lake House Restaurant. He had developed some fusion desserts! One is a variation on a gula melaka - without the sago. The other was black sesame dumplings. Good to see desserts on the up!
