Irish Number Plates

Our guide explained the Irish number plate system.  The number on the left is the year of registration, followed by letters denoting the county, then the big number is the sequence of that car sold that year.  So logical - but hard to remember.  And the plate stays with the car.

So this is the 10,691st car sold in 2008 in county KY, wherever that is.

But now there is a new system.  the first 2 numbers are the year, followed by a 1 or 2, denoting whether it was sold in the first or second 6 months of the year.  Then the county, then the sequence. I guess this makes the last number smaller.

And there is one county called KK, but haven't been able to get a picture of it.
