The weather forecast for Wittenberg was bad, so we changed our plans.
We went to the Spy Museum.
It all began well enough, with info about espionage gathered from Roman times, through to the code-breakers and the Cold War. We also learned that the Bridge of Spies really does exist, at Potsdam. Pity we won't have time to visit it. Potsdam was next on our list.
A model.
And we saw how umbrella poisoning works. You don't look at umbrellas in the same way again.
The museum then progressed into conspiracy theories and James Bond, and the movies, much to the delight of the children!
We also saw the Berlin Cathedral. Fancy being so big and not having a bell to ring
Inside, with numbered pew seats
And a dome.
And a massive tomb of Prussian royalty.
I love crypts - it is where the bodies are buried. This was no exception with lots of tombs of Prussian royalty and others - I am not sure who. But this one was interesting. It is the tomb of Fredrick William II of Prussia, and is heavily damaged. I am still trying to find out why and how.
We walked back to our hotel, via an "Asian" restaurant for dinner where I had won ton and KM had pad thai. Asia covers everything from Thai to Chinese and sushi. We had Vietnamese pho for lunch.
We did have curry-wurst last night - I had expected sausage with curried meat in it. But it was sausage with "curry" sauce over it! Not curry as we know it, but quite sweet and there was some chilli there somewhere. It came with a bread roll. Certainly worth a try at least once as a Berlin/German specialty.
We must be adjusting to the weather. I shed a layer today - it warmed up to 3 degrees. Or perhaps it was the furry shoe lining that Anne told me about - it worked a treat! Singapore and Sydney will be such a shock to the system.
